Piazza Venezia is one of the largest squares in Rome, located at the base of the Capitoline Hill in the central part of the city, not far from the famous Roman Forum. It is named after the Palazzo Venezia that stands on the square. Piazza Venezia is not only one of the popular attractions in Italy’s capital but also a major transportation hub in Rome. The square is situated at the intersection of six main streets, including Via dei Fori Imperiali, Via del Corso, and Via del Plebiscito, among others.

The square took on its current appearance in 1885 with the construction of the Altare della Patria, or Vittoriano, a monument dedicated to the first king of unified Italy, Victor Emmanuel II. Many well-known landmarks are located near Piazza Venezia, including the Colosseum, the greatest monument of ancient Rome, the Theater of Marcellus, the Pantheon, an outstanding monument of the history and architecture of ancient Rome, Argentina Tower Square (Italian: Largo di Torre Argentina) and many others.
