San Babila Square (Italian: Piazza San Babila) is one of the central squares of Milan, located in the historical center of the city. The square is named after the Basilica of San Babila (Basilica di San Babila), which was built in the 4th century on the site of a pagan temple in honor of Saint Babylas of Antioch. The church was considered the third most important after the Milan Cathedral and the Basilica of Saint Ambrose. Over the centuries, the church has undergone numerous renovations and acquired its current appearance at the end of the 19th century.
The square is also home to the Palazzo del Toro, built in 1938, which houses the Nuovo Theater and numerous boutiques. At the center of the square is a large fountain, constructed in 1997 by architect Luigi Caccia Dominioni.
San Babila Square is an important transportation hub, with several Milan Metro lines converging here, making it easily accessible for tourists and locals alike. In addition to its historical and cultural landmarks, the square features modern shops, cafes, and restaurants, creating a lively atmosphere at any time of the day.
