Agropoli is a charming coastal town and seaport in the province of Salerno, in the Campania region of southwestern Italy. It is located on the coast of the Tyrrhenian Sea in the northern part of the Cilento National Park, 44 kilometers (27 miles) southeast of Salerno, the administrative center of the province.
The town has a population of around 20,000 people and covers an area of 32.51 square kilometers (12.55 square miles). Agropoli is an ancient town with history dating back to the Neolithic period. The historic district, known as the “Old Town,” features many old buildings and landmarks, such as the Aragonese Castle, the Tower of Saint Francis, the Tower of Saint Mark, the Church of Santa Maria di Constantinopoli, the Church of San Marco, and others.
Agropoli is famous for its beautiful beaches with all the necessary infrastructure. Some beaches are protected from strong waves by breakwaters. Agropoli has a Mediterranean climate with mild, wet winters and hot, dry summers. Average temperatures range from around +10°C (50°F) in January to +27°C (81°F) in July. Spring and autumn are the best times for sightseeing in Agropoli, while the peak beach season is in August.
