Kaprun is a municipality and a popular ski resort in Austria, located in the federal state of Salzburg, in the center of the country, about 80 kilometers (50 miles) south of the city of Salzburg. About 10 kilometers (6 miles) south of Kaprun, at an elevation of 3,029 meters (9,938 feet) above sea level, lies the Kitzsteinhorn Glacier (Kitzsteinhorn), which offers year-round opportunities for winter sports. Kaprun boasts a well-developed tourist infrastructure, featuring hotels, restaurants, cafes, and many other amenities.

The Kaprun ski resort mainly offers “blue” slopes of medium difficulty and more challenging “red” slopes for experienced skiers. There are also several extremely difficult “black” slopes for professionals, as well as snow parks and freeride routes. The total length of all ski runs reaches about 61 kilometers (38 miles). Kaprun is divided into two main ski areas: Maiskogel (Maiskogel), located at an elevation of 1,675 meters (5,495 feet) above sea level, and the Kitzsteinhorn Glacier. Visitors can easily reach the glacier from the village of Kaprun via the 3K K-onnection cable car.
