Alsfeld is a small picturesque town in the federal state of Hesse, in which medieval architecture is well preserved. It is located in central Germany, 92 km northeast of Frankfurt. The town is has to about 16 thousand inhabitants and an area of 130 km². The oldest buildings and architectural monuments are located on the Market Square (German: Marktplatz) in the heart of the Old Town (Alsfeld) of the city.
The ancient Town Hall with its tower and spire, built in 1516, is located on the Market Square. Alsfeld Town Hall is the seat where the city mayor’s office meets. The Market Square is also home to historic buildings such as a 16th century Wedding House, a Wine House, built in the mid-16th century, and the first and oldest house in the city of Alsfeld, built in 1350 year.
