Florence - Ponte Vecchio Bridge Live Webcam
Live webcam shows the Ponte Vecchio bridge in Florence, Italy.
Ponte Vecchio is one of the symbols of Florence and one of the most famous bridges in the world. It was built in 1345 and remains the oldest bridge in Florence, having preserved its original appearance over the centuries. The bridge is also often called Golden Bridge. This nickname dates back to 1593 when Ferdinand I decreed that the meat markets on it, known for their unpleasant odors, should be replaced with jewelry and gold shops.
The Ponte Vecchio is located at the narrowest point of the Arno River and connects two historic districts of the city: Oltrarno and Centro Storico. Today, this three-arched stone bridge serves not only as a crossing but also as a market and historical gallery. The bridge is home to the Vasari Corridor, an elevated and enclosed passage built in 1565 by the architect Giorgio Vasari. This corridor was designed to allow the ruling Medici family to move freely and safely between their residences in Palazzo Vecchio and Palazzo Pitti. Today, the Ponte Vecchio bridge is one of Florence’s most famous landmarks, attracting visitors with its unique history, stunning views, and vibrant shops.
