Today, this three-arched stone bridge serves not only as a crossing but also as a market and historical gallery. The bridge is home to the Vasari Corridor, an elevated and enclosed passage built in 1565 by the architect Giorgio Vasari. This corridor was designed to allow the ruling Medici family to move freely and safely between their residences in Palazzo Vecchio and Palazzo Pitti.
