Sarzana is a city in the province of La Spezia in the Liguria region, northwestern Italy. It is situated on the Ligurian coast of Italy, on the right bank of the Magra River, 20 km (12 mi) east of La Spezia and 65 km (40 mi) north of Pisa. The historic center of Sarzana is located 10 km (6 mi) north of the Ligurian Sea coast. The city has a population of about 21,591 people and covers an area of 34 km² (13 sq mi). The most interesting attractions in the city include the ancient Cathedral, built in 1474 from white marble in the Gothic style, the Sarzana Castle on the Sarzanello hill, the Church of Sant’Andrea from the 11th century, the Church of San Francesco from the 13th century, the Palazzo del Capitano, and more.
