Nuremberg (German: Nürnberg) is the second most populous city in Bavaria after Munich and the 14th in Germany, with about 515 thousand inhabitants. The city is located on the banks of the Pegnitz River in the northern part of Bavaria, 169 km north of Munich and 200 km northeast of Stuttgart. Nuremberg is considered the capital of Northern Bavaria and an important tourist and cultural center in southeastern Germany.

Nuremberg is one of the oldest cities in the country, the first mention of it dates back to 1050, when there was a town called “Noerenberg”. Due to its strategic and favorable location on a high cliff, Nuremberg was one of the most important and influential cities of the Holy Roman Empire.

Nuremberg is known for its rich history, many sights, and historical monuments, the most important of which is the Nuremberg Castle (German: Nürnberger Burg). In the Middle Ages, Nuremberg was considered the “capital” of toy manufacturing in Europe and today it is known as the center of toy manufacturing in Germany. Nuremberg toys are very popular and famous all over the world. Nuremberg Christmas Market is held on the central square in the old town of Nuremberg during the month before Christmas.
