Rapallo is a resort town located on the coast of the Gulf of Tigullio in the Ligurian Sea, between the resorts of Portofino and Chiavari, 28 kilometers (17.4 miles) southeast of Genoa. It is mentioned in documents dating back to 964 AD as a coastal village, and Rapallo began to develop as a resort in 1868, when the railway from Rome to Nice was built. The dawn period occurred during the “Belle Epoque”, when diplomats, high aristocracy, and writers, including Guy de Maupassant and Friedrich Nietzsche, vacationed here.
