Lanzarote Airport, officially known as César Manrique-Lanzarote Airport (Aeropuerto de César Manrique-Lanzarote), is the primary international airport on Lanzarote Island, one of the Canary Islands in the Atlantic Ocean, belonging to Spain. It is located in the municipality of San Bartolomé on the eastern coast of the island, approximately 5 km southwest of the island’s capital, Arrecife.
Initially opened in 1946, the airport has since evolved into a modern international hub. In 2019, it was renamed in honor of the renowned local artist and architect César Manrique, who made significant contributions to the development, architecture, and cultural heritage of Lanzarote Island. Lanzarote Airport features two passenger terminals: Terminal 1 (T1) and Terminal 2 (T2). Terminal 1 (T1) handles international and domestic flights and is the main terminal, accommodating the majority of the airport’s traffic. Terminal 2 (T2) is primarily used for inter-island flights within the Canary archipelago.
The airport boasts modern amenities and a well-developed infrastructure, including various shops, restaurants, cafes, and car rental services. It serves as the main gateway for tourists arriving on Lanzarote for vacations, with an annual passenger traffic exceeding 6 million passengers. The airport is well-connected with regular bus services to major destinations on the island, including Arrecife, Playa Blanca, and Puerto del Carmen. Taxi services are also readily available.
