Verona Castelvecchio Live Webcam, Italy
Live webcam shows Castelvecchio in the city of Verona, Italy.
Castelvecchio is a medieval castle located on the banks of the Adige River in Verona. The castle was constructed from 1354 to 1376 during the rule of the prominent Ghibelline family, the Scaligeri, as a fortification to protect the city. It is built of red brick without any decorations, resulting in a powerful and compact structure.
The castle has seven towers around its perimeter and is surrounded by a moat that was once filled with water from the Adige River. The fortified Scaliger Bridge (Italian: Ponte di Castelvecchio), built in 1355, connects the castle to the left bank of the city. The bridge was designed to provide an escape route from the castle to the north in Tyrol in case of a coup or uprising by the people of Verona.
