Bad Langensalza is a small spa town in the federal state of Thuringia in central Germany, located 170 km west of Leipzig and 340 km southwest of Berlin. It has an area of 123.11 km² and is home to about 18,000 people. Bad Langenzalza is one of the oldest towns in Thuringia, known for its massive fortress walls with towers made of local travertine, the oldest churches, and buildings from the 19th century.

The old town of Bad Langensalza (Altstadt) with most of the city’s attractions is located within the fortress walls. The most popular of them include: Town Hall (Rathaus) on the central Market Square, the Market Church of St. Bonifacii (Marktkirche St. Bonifacii), the Postal Column (Postmeilensäule), the Historic Mailbox (Historischer Postbriefkasten), and others.

The town is also famous for its hot mineral springs, which make Bad Langensalza of the most popular spa town in Thuringia. The climate is arid and warm with little rainfall throughout the year.
