Sorrento is a city in the province of Naples in the Campania region, southwestern Italy. It is located on the Sorrentine Peninsula, on the southern shore of the Bay of Naples. Sorrento is perched on a cliff that dramatically drops into the sea, offering breathtaking views of the Bay of Naples, Mount Vesuvius, the island of Capri, and Naples.
The city covers an area of 9 square kilometers (3.5 square miles) and has a population of approximately 16,000 people. Sorrento is situated about 50 kilometers (31 miles) south of Naples, accessible via a scenic road along the Amalfi Coast or by ferry from Naples.
Major attractions in Sorrento include Piazza Tasso, Via Luigi de Maio, the Monastery of St. Francis, the Sorrento Cathedral (Duomo di Sorrento), the Sorrento waterfront, and the main port, Marina Piccola.
