Mount Etna Panorama Live Webcam, Italy
Live webcam shows a panoramic view of Mount Etna from the Valle del Bove in Italy.
Mount Etna is an active stratovolcano in Italy, located in the northeast of the island of Sicily, 79 kilometers (49 miles) north of Catania and 103 kilometers (64 miles) south of Messina. It is the highest active volcano in Europe, with an elevation of about 3,357 meters (11,014 feet). The height of the volcano changes after almost every eruption. Mount Etna is the largest volcano in Italy, more than 2.5 times the size of Mount Vesuvius. The volcano is situated at the junction of the African and Eurasian tectonic plates and was formed as a result of the African tectonic plate moving under the Eurasian plate.
The soil around the volcano is very fertile due to the numerous minerals and trace elements contained in the volcanic ash and cooled lava, which are ejected in large quantities during eruptions. On the slopes of Mount Etna, vineyards, various fruits, olives, and much more are cultivated. Mount Etna is one of the most dangerous volcanoes not only in Italy but also in the world, as there are many populated areas nearby, including large cities like Catania and Messina. Mount Etna was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage list in June 2013.
