Navy Pier is one of the largest piers in Chicago located on the shoreline of Lake Michigan in the Streeterville neighborhood of Chicago. It is one of the main attractions and popular holiday destinations ib the city. It was built in 1916 as a dock for freight and passenger transport, and in 1995 became a multifunctional holiday destination after reconstruction.
Its length is a 3,300-foot-long (1,010 m), and the area is 20 hectares. There are shops, restaurants, bars, gardens, attractions, places for walking and recreation. It regularly hosts free concerts, entertainment and cultural events. In summer and autumn, fireworks are launched over the pier twice a week.
The most popular and famous attraction of Navy Pier is The Ferris wheel. It is the tallest Ferris wheel in Chicago with 150 meters high. The Ferris wheel at Navy Pier offers a spectacular view of panorama of Chicago with its skyscrapers and Lake Michigan. It is 2nd most visited tourist attraction of Chicago with over 8.6 million visitors annually.
