The Ocean Beach is a wide and long sandy beach stretching along the west coast of San Francisco, California. Its length is more than 5 km and 200 m wide. The beach gives its name “Ocean Beach” as it located on the Pacific Coast. The beach bordered the western part of Golden Gate Park, which is the third most visited park in the United States after New York Central Park and Lincoln Park in Chicago. The Sutro Baths ruins, Seal Rocks and The Cliff House (a neo-classical style building) are popular attractions near The Ocean Beach, located at the northern end of the beach. For most of the Cliff House’s history, since 1863, the building’s well-know its restaurants and bars with magnificent views of the Pacific Ocean and the beach. The Ocean Beach is not suitable for swimming due to dangerous undercurrents and a process known as upwelling, in which frigid water from below the ocean surface rises to replace the surface water that moves away from the beach as a result of the Coriolis effect. However, it is popular with surfers and attracts professional surfers from all over the world. The Great Highway runs along the beach, connecting it to other parts of San Francisco.
