Guadalajara is a city and the capital of the state of Jalisco in Mexico, serving as a significant economic, transportation, and cultural hub in the southwestern region of the country. Situated in the central part of the state of Jalisco, Guadalajara is located 331 kilometers to the east of the resort city of Puerto Vallarta and 530 kilometers to the west of the nation’s capital Mexico City. The city covers an area of 150 square kilometers and is home to approximately 1.4 million residents.

In conjunction with the surrounding municipalities of Zapopan, Tlaquepaque, Tonala, Tlajomulco de Zuniga, El Salto, Ixtlahuacán de los Membrillos, and Juanacatlan, Guadalajara forms the Guadalajara metropolitan area. This metropolitan area boasts a population exceeding 5 million, positioning it as the third-largest metropolitan area in Mexico.

Guadalajara holds a status as one of Mexico’s foremost cultural centers. The city boasts a wealth of historic structures that showcase Spanish Colonial architecture, along with splendid baroque-style churches.
