It has three runways on Lake Hood for seaplane takeoff and landing. The airport also has one gravel runway that is 671 meters long and 23 meters wide. Lake Hood is currently the busiest hydroaeroport in the world, with about 190 flights daily. In winter, the ice-covered surface of the lake is maintained in a condition suitable for servicing seaplanes equipped with skis.
