Lake Conroe is located in Montgomery County in southeastern Texas, 75 km north of Houston. Its area is 81.4 km2, length is 41 km, width is 9.7 km, average depth is 6 m, maximum depth is 21 m. The length of the coastline of Lake Conroe is about 253 km.
The lake was created in 1973 to provide the city of Houston with drinking water, today it provides 70% of the water supply to the largest city in Texas. Various types of algae grow in the lake, so the water in it is not too transparent.
Today, Lake Conroe is being developed as a place for recreation with parks, tennis courts, golf courses on its shores. There were built hotels and restaurants. Fishing, boat trips and jet skiing are very popular here.
The name of the lake comes from the city of Conroe, which is the administrative center of Montgomery County and part of the Greater Houston metropolitan area.
