Mazatlán (Spanish: Mazatlán) is a vibrant port city and popular seaside resort on Mexico’s northwest Pacific coast, in the state of Sinaloa. Located south of the Gulf of California, it lies approximately 440 km (273 miles) north of Puerto Vallarta, 480 km (298 miles) northwest of Guadalajara, and 980 km (609 miles) northwest of Mexico City. With a population of around 501,000, Mazatlán is one of the largest cities in Sinaloa. The name “Mazatlán” comes from the Nahuatl language, meaning “place of deer.”
