Panama Canal Live Webcam โ Agua Clara Locks
This webcam shows the Agua Clara Locks of the Panama Canal in Panama, with the image updating every 20 seconds.
The Agua Clara Locks are a key engineering complex on the Atlantic side of the Panama Canal, built as part of the major Panama Canal Expansion Project. Officially inaugurated on June 26, 2016, the locks were designed to accommodate Neo-Panamax vessels, which are significantly larger than the ships that pass through the original canal locks.
The complex is located near Colรณn, at the northern entrance of the Panama Canal, close to Gatun Lake, the canalโs main freshwater reservoir. This strategic location makes the locks a vital hub connecting the Caribbean Sea and the Atlantic Ocean with the canalโs internal waterway system. Visitors can enjoy observation decks to watch large container ships and LNG carriers pass through in real time.
The Agua Clara Locks consist of three consecutive chambers, each approximately 427 meters (1,401 feet) long, 55 meters (180 feet) wide, and 18.3 meters (60 feet) deep. These dimensions allow the locks to handle vessels up to 366 meters (1,201 feet) long, 49 meters (161 feet) wide, with a draft of up to 15.2 meters (50 feet). Each chamber is equipped with water-saving basins that allow up to 60% of the water to be reused per transit, an important measure to preserve freshwater resources.
Today, together with the Cocolรญ Locks on the Pacific side, the Agua Clara Locks facilitate up to 6% of global maritime trade, reinforcing the Panama Canalโs position as one of the worldโs most important shipping corridors and a key element of global logistics.
