Sedona is a scenic city in northwestern Arizona, located on the border of Yavapai and Coconino counties, about 190 km (120 miles) north of Phoenix. Famous for its striking red rock formations, Sedona covers 48 sq km (18.6 sq miles) and has around 10,000 residents. The city has a hot semi-arid climate, with summer highs reaching +35 °C (95 °F) and mild winters averaging −1 °C (30 °F). Rainfall is fairly even year-round, with peaks in winter and the summer monsoon season.

Founded in the early 20th century and named after Sedona Schnebly, the city was originally agricultural. By the mid-20th century, Sedona became a popular filming location, appearing in over 60 Hollywood films, including Johnny Guitar, Angel and the Badman, and 3:10 to Yuma. Its landscapes often stood in for Texas, California, Nevada, and even the U.S.-Canada border.
