Independence Square (Plaza Independencia) is the central historic plaza in the colonial heart of Pachuca de Soto, the capital of Hidalgo State, Mexico. Its most iconic feature is the Monumental Clock of Pachuca (Reloj Monumental de Pachuca), standing approximately 40 meters (131 feet) tall. Built to commemorate the centennial of Mexico’s War of Independence, the clock tower was officially inaugurated on September 15, 1910. Independence Square has long served as a public, commercial, and ceremonial hub, surrounded by historic buildings, theaters, and arcades.
