Bethlehem is a city in Lehigh County in northeastern Pennsylvania, set along the scenic banks of the Lehigh River. It is located about 97 kilometers (60 miles) north of Philadelphia and approximately 130 kilometers (81 miles) west of New York City. With a population of around 75,000 residents, Bethlehem is one of the key urban centers of the Lehigh Valley region.

Founded in 1741 by Moravian settlers from Central Europe, Bethlehem has deep religious, cultural, and historical roots. The city’s development accelerated in the late 19th century with the rise of Bethlehem Steel, which turned Bethlehem into one of the most important steel-producing hubs in the United States. The company played a major role in the national economy until the plant closed in 1995.

Bethlehem has a humid continental climate, with warm, humid summers and cold, snowy winters. Average temperatures in July reach about +24 °C (75 °F), while January averages around −1 °C (30 °F). Precipitation is fairly evenly distributed throughout the year, and winter snowstorms are common. Spring and fall are generally mild and comfortable, making them especially appealing times to visit.

Today, Bethlehem is known for its well-preserved Historic District, impressive Bethlehem SteelStacks cultural complex, and Musikfest Park, home to Musikfest, one of the largest music festivals in the United States. The Moravian Museum highlights the city’s early heritage, while seasonal events, Christmas markets, and year-round festivals make Bethlehem an attractive destination in every season.
