Laramie is the third-largest city in Wyoming, situated on the banks of the Laramie River near the Rocky Mountains, at an elevation of 2,188 meters (7,175 feet) above sea level. The city is located approximately 80 km (50 miles) west of Cheyenne and about 210 km (130 miles) north of Denver. Laramie has a population of around 32,000 residents and covers an area of roughly 46 kmยฒ (17.8 sq mi).

Founded in 1868 during the construction of the Union Pacific Railroad, Laramie quickly became an important rail hub in the American Midwest. In 1886, the University of Wyoming was established in the city, which has since played a key role in developing Laramie as an educational and cultural center.

Laramie experiences a continental climate, characterized by cold, snowy winters and short, warm summers. Average winter temperatures are around -8ยฐC (17ยฐF), while summer averages reach approximately +21ยฐC (70ยฐF). Its high-altitude location contributes to rapid weather changes and relatively low humidity.

Key attractions in Laramie include the University of Wyoming, which houses several museums; the historic downtown area featuring preserved buildings, restaurants, and shops; and Fort Sanders, built in 1866. Nearby, the Medicine Bow National Forest offers outdoor enthusiasts opportunities for hiking, camping, and winter sports.
