The USS New Jersey (BBโ€‘62) is one of the most famous and powerful battleships in U.S. naval history. Today, it is preserved as a museum ship on the Camden waterfront along the Delaware River, directly across from Philadelphia. Visitors can watch it via live webcams or explore it in person, experiencing an iconic symbol of American naval strength.

Built at the Philadelphia Naval Shipyard and launched on December 7, 1942โ€”exactly one year after the attack on Pearl Harborโ€”the battleship served in World War II, the Korean War, the Vietnam War, and operations in Lebanon and the Persian Gulf. Over its active service, it earned 19 battle stars, making it one of the most decorated battleships in U.S. Navy history.

Measuring approximately 271 meters (889 feet) in length and armed with 16-inch (406 mm) guns, the USS New Jersey is an engineering marvel of its time. It was decommissioned in 1991 and later transformed into the Battleship New Jersey Museum & Memorial, which opened to the public on October 15, 2001.

At the museum, visitors can explore the shipโ€™s decks, command centers, artillery stations, and exhibits. The experience offers a unique glimpse into life aboard a naval battleship, showcasing both its military history and technological innovations. Whether for virtual viewing through live webcams or an on-site visit, the USS New Jersey remains a must-see for history enthusiasts and travelers alike.
