The Torre Latinoamericana is one of the most famous skyscrapers in Mexico City, located at the intersection of Francisco I. Madero and Eje Central in the city’s historic district (Centro Histórico). This 44-story building stands 166 meters (545 feet) tall, and with its spire, it reaches approximately 182 meters (597 feet). The total floor area of the tower is 27,727 m² (298,590 sq ft), housing offices of national and international companies, telecommunications services, restaurants, an observation deck, and public areas.

Construction of the tower took place between 1948 and 1956, designed by architect Augusto H. Álvarez and engineer Adolfo Zeevaert. It officially opened on April 30, 1956. Upon completion, the Torre Latinoamericana became the tallest building in Mexico and all of Latin America. It was one of the first skyscrapers in the world built in an active seismic zone. Remarkably, it withstood the 1957, 1985, and 2017 earthquakes, when many buildings in downtown Mexico City were severely damaged.

The tower primarily houses company offices, while the upper floors feature the Mirador Observation Deck on the 44th floor, a panoramic café-bar, and a museum dedicated to the history of the tower and Mexico City. On the 38th floor, there is a large aquarium, one of the highest in the world. The Torre Latinoamericana symbolizes Mexico City’s modernization and technological progress in the mid-20th century. Its height and location dominate the skyline of the historic district, making it a standout landmark and a must-visit attraction in the capital of Mexico.
