Chicago Midway International Airport (IATA: MDW, ICAO: KMDW) is a major commercial airport located on the southwest side of Chicago, in the Garfield Ridge neighborhood, about 14 kilometers (9 miles) from downtown. It is Chicagoโ€™s second-largest airport and plays an important supporting role alongside the cityโ€™s primary international hub, Oโ€™Hare International Airport.

Originally opened in 1926โ€“1927 as Chicago Municipal Airport, Midway quickly became one of the busiest airports in the world during its early years. In 1949, the airport was renamed in honor of the Battle of Midway. After Oโ€™Hare International Airport opened, passenger traffic at Midway decreased. However, extensive modernization in recent decades has transformed the airport into a modern and efficient facility. Today, Midway primarily serves domestic and short-haul routes and handles approximately 15โ€“20 million passengers each year.

Chicago Midway International Airport remains a convenient transportation hub for travel within the United States. One of its biggest advantages is direct and fast access to downtown Chicago via the CTA Orange Line, which connects the airport to the Loop district. The airport is also easily accessible by major highways and offers a wide range of ground transportation options, including taxis, shuttle services, and multiple parking facilities.
