Michigan Technological University (Michigan Tech, MTU) is a public research university located in Houghton on Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. Founded in 1885 as the Michigan Mining School, it was originally created to educate engineers for the region’s mining industry. Over time, the university has evolved into a nationally and internationally recognized institution, especially known for its strengths in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM).
