The National September 11 Memorial & Museum is the primary memorial site honoring the victims of the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, in New York City, as well as those at the Pentagon in Washington, D.C., and in Shanksville, Pennsylvania. It is located at the historic Ground Zero site in Lower Manhattan, on the former footprint of the World Trade Center towers. The memorial features two expansive reflecting pools set within the original foundations of the North and South Towers, with the names of nearly 3,000 victimsโ€”including those of the 1993 World Trade Center bombingโ€”inscribed around their edges.

Beneath the memorial plaza lies the 9/11 Museum, which preserves artifacts, personal items, photographs, video footage, and original documents from the day of the attacks. The museumโ€™s exhibits guide visitors through the timeline of events, highlight the courage and sacrifice of first responders, and examine the lasting impact of 9/11 on global security, international relations, and modern society.

The memorial complex officially opened on September 11, 2011, marking ten years since the attacks. Today, the National September 11 Memorial & Museum serves as a powerful cultural and educational destination, open year-round and offering guided tours, educational programs, and commemorative events. It remains a place of remembrance and reflection, where visitors from around the world come to honor the lives lost and reflect on the significance of that day.
