Detroit Webcam — Detroit River

Detroit is a city located on the banks of the Detroit River in southeastern Michigan, directly across from the Canadian city of Windsor in Ontario. In the mid-20th century, Detroit became a major center of the U.S. automobile industry, earning the nicknames “Motor City” and “the Automotive Capital of the World.”

In the latter half of the 20th century, the city experienced an economic downturn, worsened by the 1973 oil crisis, which led to industrial decline and population loss. Despite these challenges, Detroit remains home to the headquarters of the “Big Three” automakers: General Motors, Ford, and Chrysler. Today, the city has a population of approximately 639,000 people, while the greater Detroit metropolitan area exceeds 4 million residents.

This webcam is located at the Dossin Great Lakes Museum on Belle Isle, which sits in the Detroit River. Belle Isle is known for its scenic natural areas and a variety of attractions, including a botanical garden, a yacht club, a zoo, and two small lakes — Lake Takoma and Lake Muskoday.
