AquaRio is the Marine Aquarium in Rio de Janeiro (Portuguese: Aquario Marinho do Rio de Janeiro), it is the largest aquarium in Brazil and all South America. AquaRio is located on Av. Binario do Porto in the Gamboa neighborhood of ​​Rio de Janeiro, near the seaport of the second largest city in Brazil. The Marine Aquarium occupy a five-story building with 28 aquariums of various sizes with a total volume of 4.5 million liters of seawater. AquaRio is home about 3,000 animals from 350 different species of which are vast majority representatives of the fauna of the territorial waters of Brazil. The largest exposition of AquaRio is in the Ocean Aquarium with 3.5 million liters of sea water and a depth of 7 m. The aquarium is equipped of an underwater tunnel that allows visitors to walk through the entire aquarium and see huge sharks, rays and various fish species at close range. The interior of the aquarium’s hall is decorated with a huge 13-meter skeleton of a humpback whale that washed ashore on one of the city’s beaches in Rio de Janeiro in 2014. AquaRio has a Science Museum and a Surfing Museum where you can learn all about the history of surfing in Brazil and in the world.
