Moai are monolithic stone statues on Easter Island in the Pacific Ocean, which belongs to Chile. At the moment there are about 900 known statues. They are located in the territory of the Rapa Nui National Park, which is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is believed that the statues were created by the indigenous Rapa Nui people (the original inhabitants of Easter Island) sometime between 1250 and 1500 AD. However, it is still not known exactly by whom, how and when the statues were created. The largest of them weighs over 82 tons. Easter Island is located in the southeastern part of the Pacific Ocean, 3514 km from the coast of Chile. It is the most isolated inhabited island in the world. The capital and only town on the island is Hanga Roa, with a population of 5800 people.
