Itajaí is a city located on the Atlantic coast at the mouth of the Itajaí-Acu River in the state of Santa Catarina in southern Brazil, 13 km north of the resort of Balneario Camboriu and 88 km north of the state capital Florianópolis. Itajai is also one of the largest seaports in Brazil and the main port of Santa Catarina, almost all the goods produced in Santa Catarina are exported through Itajai Port. In 1750 Portuguese colonists from Madeira and the Azores for the first time settled on this territory, in 1823 a village appeared here, and like the city of Itajaí was founded on June 15, 1860. Currently, Itajai is home to more than 163 thousand people, and its area is about 289 km². The climate in Itajai is subtropical with humid winters and dry summers. In winter, the air temperature often drops to + 5 °C, and in summer it can rise to + 40 °C. Itajai is very popular tourists destination thanks to many beautiful sandy beaches and developed infrastructure. Itajaí is served by Navegantes–Ministro Victor Konder International Airport (IATA: NVT, ICAO: SBNF), located in the neighboring town of Navegantes, 6 km from Itajai.
