Xinyi District, Chinese: 信義區, is the central and financial district of Taipei City, home to the Taipei City Hall and Taipei City Council. It is also home to the Taipei International Convention Center and the Taipei World Trade Center, opened in January 1986, which brings together in one place exhibition space, meeting rooms, office space, hotels and more. Xinyi is considered the main shopping district of not only of Taipei, but of all of Taiwan, as it is home to many major shopping centers, department stores, and entertainment centers. The Xinyi district is home to the Taipei 101 mixed-use skyscraper, which is the tallest building in Taiwan, the 5th tallest in Asia and the 10th tallest in the world. The height of this 101-story skyscraper is 509.2 meters. It was built from 1999 to 2003 and was the world’s tallest skyscraper from 2004 to 2008.
