Kaohsiung is one of the largest cities in the Republic of China (Taiwan), located on the coast of the Taiwan Strait in the southwest of Taiwan Island. The city covers an area of 2951 km² and is home to about 2.7 million people. This makes Kaohsiung the third most populous city in the Republic of China after Xinbei and Taichung, and the second largest city on the island of Taiwan. Kaohsiung is also a major seaport and one of the largest industrial centers of Taiwan.

The climate here is hot tropical with distinct dry and wet seasons. The wet season, characterized by high precipitation, falls from May to September, while the dry season occurs from October to April. Annual temperature fluctuations are low due to the tropical climate. The average temperature in the hottest month of the year, July, is around +29°C, and the average temperature in the winter months is +19°C. Some of the most famous and popular attractions in Kaohsiung include Lotus Lake, Dragon and Tiger Pagodas, Kaohsiung National Stadium, Buddha Statue, Shushan Zoo, Chang Gu Shopping Center, and others.
