Lake Biwa (Japanese: 琵琶湖, Biwa-ko) is the largest freshwater lake in Japan, located in central Honshu within Shiga Prefecture. Its name comes from the Japanese musical instrument ‘biwa,’ as the shape of the lake resembles the instrument.
