Sakurajima is an active stratovolcano in Japan, located on the Ōsumi Peninsula in the southern part of Kyushu, the country’s third-largest island. It rises 1,117 meters above sea level and has three main peaks: the northern summit Kitadake (1,117 m), the central summit Nakadake (1,060 m), and the southern summit Minamidake (1,040 m). Sakurajima is one of Japan’s most active volcanoes and has been erupting regularly for many decades.
Today, Sakurajima is one of the most famous natural landmarks of Kyushu.
