It lies at an elevation of about 1,620 meters (5,315 feet) above sea level near the northern shore of Lake Issyk-Kul in northern Kyrgyzstan, approximately 12 kilometers (7.5 miles) east of the district center Cholpon-Ata and about 225 kilometers (140 miles) east of the capital city Bishkek.
According to the latest data, the village has a population of around 7,815 residents. The main road connecting Bosteri with other settlements is the A363 highway, which runs along the northern shore of Lake Issyk-Kul. The local economy is primarily driven by tourism. Bosteri is known for its water park, and one of its most popular attractions is a Ferris wheel that offers panoramic views of the lake and the surrounding mountains.
Historically, Bosteri developed as an important trading and handicraft hub along the caravan routes that once ran around Issyk-Kul. Over time, it transformed into a tourist destination, especially during the Soviet period, when numerous resorts and sanatoriums were built in the area. Today, Bosteri remains one of the most popular resort villages on Lake Issyk-Kul. Its central location along the northern coast has made it part of a large recreational zone, home to well-known resorts and guesthouses such as Parus, Orbita, Zolotye Peski–Bosteri, Tolkun, Ak Ilbirs, Tulpar, and Kyrgyzskoye Vzmorye, among others.
The climate in Bosteri is continental, with cold winters and warm, often hot summers. Because of its proximity to the lake, the local climate is milder than in much of Kyrgyzstan, making Bosteri an ideal destination for year-round recreation. In summer, average temperatures range from +20°C to +28°C (68°F to 82°F) and can occasionally reach +30°C (86°F). In winter, temperatures rarely fall below −5°C (23°F), though nighttime frosts down to −10°C (14°F) may occur. The region receives a moderate amount of precipitation, most of which falls during the winter and spring months.
The main attractions of Bosteri include its long sandy beaches and the lakeside water park with a Ferris wheel overlooking Lake Issyk-Kul. The village features numerous resorts, hotels, sanatoriums, and private guesthouses. During the summer season, Bosteri becomes a popular vacation spot for both locals and tourists from neighboring countries, including Kazakhstan and Russia. The tourist infrastructure offers beach areas, attractions, restaurants, and local markets selling regional produce and handmade goods.
