Osaka International Airport (IATA: ITM), also known as Itami Airport, is located in the city of Itami in Hyogo Prefecture, about 14 km (8.7 miles) northwest of downtown Osaka. Despite its name, the airport primarily handles domestic flights and remains an important transportation hub for the Kansai region.

Itami Airport opened in 1939 and served for many years as the main aviation hub for Osaka and the wider Kansai area. When Kansai International Airport opened in 1994 on an artificial island in Osaka Bay, most international routes were relocated there. However, Itami continues to be the largest domestic airport in Kansai and one of the busiest domestic airports in Japan.

The airport handles more than 14 million passengers annually and processes around 125,000 tons of cargo. Its main destinations include major Japanese cities such as Tokyo, Sapporo, Fukuoka, Nagoya, and others. The airport is served by airlines like ANA, JAL, Peach Aviation, and several other domestic carriers. Its modern terminals offer shops, cafés, lounges, and business facilities. Travelers also have access to car rentals, luggage storage, business lounges, and free Wi-Fi.

Itami Airport is conveniently connected to nearby cities by express bus services, with regular routes to Osaka, Kyoto, Kobe, Himeji, and Nara. It is also easily accessible by car via the Hanshin Expressway and local highways. Despite competition from Kansai International Airport, Itami remains popular among business travelers and tourists who prefer quick access to domestic destinations without the longer transfer to the offshore Kansai airport.
