Matsuyama Airport (IATA: MYJ) is located in the city of Matsuyama in Ehime Prefecture on the island of Shikoku. It is the primary airport of the region, situated just 6 kilometers from the city center, providing convenient access for travelers. The airport plays a strategic role as Shikoku’s main air gateway. Transportation to downtown Matsuyama takes about 15–20 minutes by bus or taxi.
The airport was originally built in 1941 as a base for the Imperial Japanese Navy. After World War II, it was temporarily used by the U.S. military before returning to Japanese control in 1952. Commercial flights began in 1960, and the runway was extended to 2,500 meters in 1991, enabling the airport to accommodate larger aircraft.
