Yokosuka is a city and port located on the Miura Peninsula on the eastern coast of Honshu Island, in Kanagawa Prefecture, Kanto region, about 70 km south of Tokyo. It is bordered by Tokyo Bay to the east and Sagami Bay of the Pacific Ocean to the west. The city covers an area of 100.7 km² and has a population of approximately 409,000 people. Yokosuka was famously featured in the 1975 Toho film Terror of Mechagodzilla, where a decisive battle with Godzilla takes place.

Near Kurihama Flower Park, the city has a large Godzilla-shaped slide. Yokosuka is a pleasant place to live, with numerous parks and gardens, tennis courts, mini soccer fields, and the Yokosuka Green Golf course. Major attractions include the Yokosuka Arts Theatre, Dobuita Street with its many cafes and restaurants located near the U.S. Navy base, and the small uninhabited island of Sarushima in Tokyo Bay, accessible by ferry from Yokosuka.
