Bat Galim (Hebrew: בַּת גַּלִים, meaning “Daughter of the Waves”) is a neighborhood in Haifa, Israel, located on the Mediterranean coast at the foot of the western slope of Mount Carmel. It is bordered by the Carmelia neighborhood to the east, Kiryat Eliezer to the south, and the Mediterranean Sea to the west. The area is well-connected by key transportation routes, including a major railway line, providing easy access to the city’s main highways.

The neighborhood’s development began during the British Mandate in the 1920s. It was originally planned as an upscale residential and recreational center for Mandate officials and wealthy residents. A landmark event was the 1935 opening of the “Casino” building, which became a premier cultural and entertainment hub of its time. Today, Bat Galim is known for its medical institutions and historical attractions.

The Haifa Bat Galim railway station is one of the city’s main stations, offering connections to Tel Aviv, Nahariya, and other cities. The neighborhood is also home to the lower station of the “Carmelit” subway funicular, connecting it to downtown Haifa and Mount Carmel. Bat Galim Beach is generally less crowded than the beaches in southern Haifa, making it a popular spot for swimming and relaxation among locals.

A key landmark is the “Haifa Casino” (Hebrew: קזינו חיפה), a historic Bauhaus-style building constructed in 1935 based on a design by architect Yosef Berlin. It originally functioned as an upscale entertainment complex with a gaming hall, restaurant, and ballroom. After 1948, gambling ceased in the building due to its prohibition in Israel. In the early 21st century, it was fully restored and converted into a luxury residential complex while preserving its original facade. It is now a protected architectural monument and a recognized cultural heritage site.
