Hai Chau District (Hải Châu District) is an urban district in the city of Da Nang, located on the central coast of Vietnam. It stretches along the right bank of the Han River, forming the vibrant heart of the city. Hai Chau borders Thanh Khe District to the west, Son Tra and Ngu Hanh Son districts to the east, and Cam Le District to the southwest. The district covers an area of about 21 km² and has a population of approximately 197,000 residents. It serves as Da Nang’s administrative, cultural, and commercial center. The iconic Dragon Bridge spans the Han River, linking Hai Chau with the northern side of the city and Son Tra District.

Da Nang has a tropical monsoon climate, transitional between the climates of northern and southern Vietnam. The average annual temperature is around 25°C (77°F), with summer highs of 32–35°C (90–95°F) and winter lows of 18–20°C (64–68°F). Annual rainfall ranges from 2,000 to 2,500 mm, peaking between September and December when typhoons can bring up to 400 mm per month. Average humidity is around 80%, moderated by breezes from the Han River. The typhoon season runs from July to October; despite weather-related risks, the district’s modern infrastructure ensures high resilience.

Hai Chau is Da Nang’s cultural core, blending modern attractions with historical landmarks. Highlights include the Dragon Bridge, Han Market (Chợ Hàn), Da Nang Cathedral (the “Pink Church”) — a French neo-Gothic structure built in 1923 with a distinctive pink façade — the Cham Museum, and the Marble Mountains (Ngũ Hành Sơn), known for their pagodas, caves, and stunning views. The riverside promenades and Asia Park amusement complex further enhance the district’s appeal as a hub for leisure and sightseeing.
