Kanazawa is the capital of Ishikawa Prefecture, located on the coast of the Sea of Japan between the Sai and Asano Rivers on Honshu, the largest island of the Japanese archipelago. The city covers an area of approximately 467.7 km² and has a population of around 464,000. Kanazawa is renowned for its rich history, culture, and Edo-period architecture.

The city is famous for its many historical and cultural attractions. Key highlights include Kanazawa Castle, the historic city center, and Kenrokuen Garden, one of Japan’s three most celebrated gardens. Other popular sites include the Nagamachi samurai district, the Teramachi temple area, and Ninja-dera Temple. Nearby Hakusan National Park offers scenic mountains and hiking trails. Kanazawa is a cultural hub in the region, home to numerous museums, theaters, and parks. The city is also known for traditional crafts, such as gold leaf, ceramics, and kimonos.

Kanazawa Station (Japanese: 金沢駅, Kanazawa-eki) is the city’s main railway hub. It serves as an important transfer point between the Shinkansen, regional and local trains, and bus lines. The famous wooden Tsuzumi-mon Gate, shaped like a traditional tsuzumi drum, stands at the east entrance of the station and has become a symbol of Kanazawa. Above the station rises the glass-covered Motenashi Dome (‘Hospitality Dome’), combining modern design with traditional Japanese motifs. The station’s futuristic architecture has become one of the city’s iconic landmarks.
