Gudauta is the third-largest city in Abkhazia after Sukhum and Gagra. It is a seaside resort and the administrative center of the Gudauta District of the Republic of Abkhazia. The city has a population of about 8,820 residents and is located on the coast of the Gudauta Bay of the Black Sea, roughly halfway between Sukhumi and Gagra — 40 km west of Sukhumi and 41 km east of Gagra. Gudauta has a well-developed transport infrastructure, connected to other Abkhazian cities by modern highways and a railway. The Gudauta railway station serves as part of the Abkhazian Railway network.

Gudauta is a major seaside resort known for its long pebble and sandy beaches and numerous landmarks, including the Abazgia Museum Reserve, the Abakhvatsa Fortress, the Central Museum of Local History of Gudauta District, natural karst caves near the headwaters of the Mchishta River, and hydrogen sulfide mineral springs in the New Athos area. From the live webcam, you can see the intersection of Heroes Avenue and Dzidzaria Street in the very center of Gudauta. In the background stands the historic Gunda Department Store building, constructed in the early 20th century. It is considered an architectural monument and one of the city’s symbols — crowned by a clock tower with a bell.
