Live webcam streams real-time views of Myeongdong Cathedral in Seoul, South Korea.
Myeongdong Cathedral, officially known as the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, is the main Catholic church of Seoul and one of the most important historical and cultural landmarks in South Korea. The cathedral is located in the central Myeongdong district — the heart of the city’s shopping and tourism area — just north of Namsan Mountain and the N Seoul Tower.
The cathedral was completed in 1898 and built in a neo-Gothic style using red brick and gray granite. At the time of its construction, it was the tallest building in Seoul. The main structure rises about 23 meters (75 ft), with the spire reaching approximately 45 meters (148 ft). The façade features stained-glass windows depicting biblical scenes, including the Nativity.
Myeongdong Cathedral serves as the seat of the Archdiocese of Seoul and is the principal center of the Catholic Church in South Korea. It played a major role in the country’s modern history — particularly during the pro-democracy movement of the 1970s and 1980s, when it became a refuge for protesters and human rights activists.
In 1977, the cathedral was designated a National Historic Site of South Korea. Today, Myeongdong Cathedral remains an active place of worship, hosting regular services, Masses in Korean and English, and various cultural events. The cathedral complex also includes an underground hall, a memorial to martyrs, and a small museum of Catholic history.
