Thame Sherpa Village Live Webcam, Nepal
The live webcam offers a real-time view of Thame Village, a Sherpa settlement in Nepal.
Thame (Thame Village) is a high-altitude Sherpa village located in the Khumbu Valley, at approximately 3,735 meters (12,247 feet) above sea level in Koshi Province, southeastern Nepal. The village lies about 16 km from Namche Bazaar, a popular hub for tourists and climbers. Thame is known as the birthplace of renowned Sherpa mountaineers, including Tenzing Norgay, the first person to summit Mount Everest in 1953. The village is home to one of the oldest monasteries in the Khumbu region, where the annual Mani Rimdu Festival is celebrated.
The local economy of Thame is primarily based on tourism, including guiding and supporting climbers, running lodges and restaurants, as well as agriculture and traditional crafts. Unlike Namche Bazaar, Thame is not a major transit point to Everest Base Camp, which makes it significantly quieter and more peaceful. The village is often used for acclimatization before heading to higher elevations. Thame also serves as a starting point for treks to mountain passes such as Tashi Lapcha and routes leading into the Rolwaling Valley.
