Satta Pass is a scenic lookout point and hiking trail located on the Tokaido Road in the city of Shizuoka, in the Chubu region of eastern Honshu. During the Edo period (1603–1868), Satta Pass was part of the ancient Tokaido route connecting Edo (modern Tokyo) with Kyoto. The pass was immortalized in Hiroshige’s woodblock print, which depicts the striking combination of Mount Fuji, Suruga Bay, and the coastal pine trees—an image that has become symbolic of Japan’s natural and cultural heritage. The hiking trail includes remnants of the old Tokaido Road, as well as temples and other cultural landmarks. Seasonal fruit trees planted along the path add to its charm.
