Kaohsiung City (Chinese: 高雄市) is one of the largest cities, a major seaport and one of the largest industrial centers in the Republic of China (Taiwan). It has an area of 2,951 square kilometers and is home to more than 2.7 million people. Kaohsiung is the second largest city in Taiwan by area and the third most populous city in the Republic of China after Xinbei and Taichung.

The city is located on the coast of the Taiwan Strait of the South China Strait of the South China Sea of the Pacific Ocean in the southwest of Taiwan Island. The central areas of the city are centered around the large Kaohsiung Bay. At the entrance to the bay is a large island called Qijin, which acts as a natural breakwater and separates Kaohsiung Bay from the South China Sea.

The climate in Kaohsiung City is hot tropical with small fluctuations in daily and annual temperatures. The city has a distinct dry and wet season. The rainy season lasts from May to September, and the dry season lasts from October to April.

The main attractions in Kaohsiung include: The 85-story Tuntex Sky Tower or 85 Sky Tower (Chinese: 高雄85大樓), which is the tallest structure in all of Taiwan, Lotus Lake, Holy Rosary Cathedral, which is one of the oldest Catholic churches in Taiwan, Confucius Temple, and many more. The webcam shows the waterfront on the shore of Kaohsiung Bay in the central part of the city.
